This Meeting: Bay Brasserie at RMYC
We haven’t been to ‘Yotties’ (as it was) for quite a while (1999 - yikes). So there is a different catering
team to try, which comes highly recommended from our members who are also members of the RMYC.
We have the lower bar to ourselves for the AGM and then meal to follow. Daniel has something for us
beyond the normal menu.

Last Meeting: Boyles Hotel
Member Peter Ryan’s young chef Dean Barlow had been to our Lochiel House meeting and wanted to
do something for us that was a different concept, a lunch with a theme - Alice in Wonderland. This was
an ambitious idea, but I thought worth trying. So 16 members and guests gathered in the extensively
refurbished Boyles Hotel.
Appetiser White Rabbit’ - White chocolate coated rabbit parfait on a crouton accompanied by Hardy’s
Limited Cellar Release2008 Pinot Noir Chardonnay Pinot Meuniere.
Entrées ‘Soft boiled egg’ - Pistachio praline “shell”, savoury goats cheesecake “white”, pumpkin soup
“yolk” and chicken quenelle “embryo” went with the white wine, a Margan Semillon, Vintage 2010, from
the Hunter Valley.
The next two dishes are two chefs’ interpretations of one idea, inspired by the vertical tasting at Kurrajong.
Main course ‘Smoking caterpillar on a two sided mushroom’ - Tea poached beef fillet served with
financier a’la financiere, smoked mushroom jus and baby carrots. The masked red was a lighter body
Shiraz, courtesy of Ken Camp, a Redman’s Coonawarra 2001. The Horse’s A went to Ryan Turner just
ahead of a flock of 6 others just 5 points behind.
Dessert ‘Smoking caterpillar on a two sided mushroom’ - Three flavours of tea cakes: Lemon and
mandarin mushroom, port wine with smoky aftertaste, and tutti frutti candy flavour with vanilla. Sticky
was Taylor’s Late Bottled Vintage Port, 2003, from Portugal.
While it may not have come together as a meal as well as hoped, it was a brave attempt by a young chef.
It needed a bit more experience to be successful, but we thank him for the thought, time and effort he
put in.
Yankee Swap: Curt will be holding a Yankee Swap ($25.00 per person) which will be held after dessert.
The Yankee Swap will most likely take 30-45 minutes to complete.
News Chris Gray was presented with his member’s bib, welcome Chris. We signed a card each for Garth
Young and Michael Durkin and their families sympathising with the health situation with one of their
sons each. A tough time for both families.
Elections are upon us at the AGM, is it time for you to take something on?
This meeting is our AGM at NOON.
Ladies Lunch: Will be at Lochiel House, who took out our Restaurant of the Year award. Details are being
arranged separately for lunch on either Friday 19 or Sunday 21 Aug.
Curt York and David M
