This Meeting: BSydney Spirit - Darling Harbour
As promised our December meeting is a harbour cruise so hope for a fine day. The Silver Spirit is a 17.3 metre (62 ft) flybridge motor cruiser which can carry 40 persons. A relaxing day is planned to eat, drink & see part of Sydney Harbour.
Last Meeting:Bistro Ortolan - Leichhardt
As predicted Bistro Ortolan measured up to my expectations. Scoring 87.4 by the 19 members & 4 visitors who dined (decor/ambience scored about 1½ points below average) it will be hard to find a finer restaurant. The day started with oysters from Cofin Bay S.A. (pacific) & Nambucca Heads (sydney rock) & canapés of smoked eel tartlets & rabbit rillettes on french bread. The champagne was Charles Heidsieck Brut Reserve which was dry, crisp & lemony. 2006 Cullen Sauvignon Blanc Semillon which was dry & spicy went well with the attractively presented Ceviche of Petuna Ocean Trout with baby vegetables à la greque & wild lime caviar decorated with gold leaf. Between the entrée & the main we were treated to a palate refresher of tomato essence & bay herbs. The main of rare spice roasted leg of Cervena venison was well received by all even those who normally do not like venison. The masked red was a 2002 Wolf Blass Grey Label Shiraz which was very accurately described by Graham Wright’s visitor Mike King so won the Horse’s Arse for his effort (Congratulations !). Another refresher followed of pink grapefruit & mint tea followed the main. Then the highlight of the day, the White Chocolate & Coffee ‘Bombe Alaska’ with Hazelnut Dacquoise which was absolutely delicious and well accompanied by 2002 Chateau du Pavillon St Croix du Mont. The late picked semillon sauvignon blanc had flavours of honey & citrus. Thus finished a GREAT luncheon.
