Last Meeting: Assiette Surry Hills
21 Members & 2 Guests had lunch at Assiette. The 2 canapés were Merimbula oyster with vietnamese salad & reduced onion balls; served with a delightfully light sparkling 2004 Johnson Christina. The entrÈe was a brilliantly presented spanner crab salad with dobs of watercress puree with kipflers, citrus mayonnaise & crustacean oil with the white wine of 2008 Fox Gordon Princess Fiano, an Italian grape from the Adelaide hills. Next the main of Assiette of rabbit was a wonderful array of pieces, a thigh, a slice of rabbit sausage, kidneys & other small delicacies, and delicate rack of rabbit ribs. This was augmented with herb risotto, cauliflower & raisin puree. The side dish was roman tomatoes with green salad. The masked red wine was unusual, 2007 Teusner Barossa Valley Joshua, Grenache, Mataro & Shiraz blend. The Horse’s arse was won by Peter Rozea after a long deliberation by Winemaster Greg Padmore. The desert was a delightful hazelnut daiquiris with chocolate parfait, milk ice cream & honeycomb. This was only surpassed by the desert wine

Well my passion for french restaurants continues with a visit to another of our local french restaurants. It has been some years since we lunched at LaRousse.
Since then the restaurant has changed hands but it still has its old charm.
