Last Meeting: VULCANS – Blackeheath
One beautiful Thursday in May, 20 members and 4 guests boarded the coach bound for Blackheath in the Blue Mountains.
At Goverts Leap overlooking the Grosse Valley, we enjoyed our champagne, NV Piper - Heidsieck Champagne, with the
canapé of a square of toasted pastry with grilled goat’s cheese with sun-dried tomatoes and caramelised onions.

Back on the coach and up to Vulcans in Blackheath to the entrée of glazed duckling sausage and pickled beetroot.
The beetroot almost overpowered the sausage but the 2007 Devil’s Lair Chardonnay balanced the entrée very well.
The main was pot roasted oyster blade of beef with lemon grass and kaffir lime.

A generous meal with lots of roasted potatoes and glazed beans. The masked wine was 1997 Wynns Coonawarra Estate
Cabernet Sauvignon. The Horse’s Arse was won by Laurie Carroll - Congratulations on an accurate description!

Then came the dessert, the famous Checkerboard Ice Cream. A square of ice cream with inserts of squares of pineapple sorbet,
star aniseed ice cream with liquorice ice cream making the boarders; a wonderful play board without the pieces. This was well
matched with a French 2006 Beaumes de Venise Muscat. Then it was back on the homeward coach after a memorable lunch.

Assiette is a one hat restaurant in Albion Street, Surry Hills not far from Elizabeth Street. Friendly chef Warren Turnbull has
established a cosy eatery with modern contemporary cuisine.
