This Meeting: Samuels Restaurant.
A popular eatery with the locals, Samuels has a serious intent with food and some interesting and sensible ideas about packaging the menu. I am sure that the menu we have planned will be stunning. We have the place to ourselves, plenty of room, and a willing staff, so please bring prospective members as they will definitely be impressed. We will have a delightful bus trip down via the Sea Cliff Bridge. A ‘hidden gem’
– you betcha.

Last Meeting: 7 Oct 2010: The New Chambers Restaurant.
40-44 Belmont St, Sutherland. Ph: 9542 2333. www.thenewchambers.com
My theme for the year is “Hidden Gems”, partly because it seems an interesting alternative to doing blockbusters, and partly that our limited numbers at the moment preclude that anyway. Chambers qualifies as a hidden gem easily, not widely known, and maybe at first glance not seeming a serious food establishment, it won over the doubters with a wide variety of tastes with good fresh produce, cooked traditionally and well – real fun food. Proceedings opened with Bay of Fires - Pinot Noir Chardonnay Brut from Tasmania. Entrée tastings of a really fresh Greek Salad, Taramosalata, Spanakopites, Tyropites, Pan-fried Haloumi, Pan-fried Kalamarakia, and BBQ Octopus was accompanied by Jeemskerk Riesling 2008, also from Tasmania. Mains Pt 1 was Cold Seafood, including: Blue Swimmer Crabs, King Prawns, Oysters Natural, accompanied by Matua Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2009 from Hawkes Bay NZ. Mains Pt 2 was a Hot Meat Platter of Souvlaki, Lamb Cutlets, Pork Chops, Ortikia (quails), Loukanika (Greek Sausages) and Home-made Chips. The masked wine was Carlei Pinot Noir - 2008 - Green Vineyards, Upper Beaconsfield, VIC, and the HA won by Peter Rozea (who scored 73 points out of 100), followed by Lindsay Parnell, David Melville, and Peter Swatosch each with 72 points. The deciding point was the % abv (alcohol by volume) - where Peter R had 13 %; closest to the correct figure which was 13.5%.
Well done Curt, that was a very difficult menu to match. Dessert was optional and of personal choice after all that food. (The average of those who partook and gave a dessert mark has been assigned to the remainder to make the overall ratings fair). Our host John, and his helpers: Con, Con, Mimmie, and Emma all did their

News:Our March meeting will be our 250th meeting and 22nd anniversary of Charter (see the updated venue listing which should
accompany this notice). So we are heading back to the Charter Night venue – Le Sands, after their massive refurbishment. Please invite past members of your acquaintance, this will be very good.
The one day flying visit to the Orange area I have been looking at for April would cost near $500, which it was generally agreed is a little
expensive, so we are examining a bus alternative, either one day or overnight
