This Meeting: The New Chambers Restaurant.
A cheerful eatery frequented by the legal fraternity from the courts around the corner, and by locals who enjoy good food from fresh produce, and plenty of it. You will not go home hungry from this Greek Banquet. Just one block south of the Sutherland Library, where you can study up
beforehand. I am sure it will give Curt a challenge to match the wide variety of tastes that we will experience
Last Meeting: 2 Sep 2010: Luke Benchmark Restaurant and Oyster Bar
16 members and 2 guests gathered at the refurbished Sylvania Heights venue (including a big advance - carpets). Croser (Adelaide Hills) NV pinot noir–chardonnay sparkling kicked off proceedings.
Entrée was an oyster tasting plate, 6-ways, just a superb range of tastes, even for those not usually enamoured of oysters. I just wished we could have afforded the dozen – go and try it for yourself, it is their signature dish. The white wine was 2006 Temple Bruer Chenin Blanc and covered the taste range very well.
Main course of Roast Duck with truffle and chive mash and balsamic roasted baby beetroot accompanied the masked wine, a 2008 Tamburlaine Grenache from their Orange winery. Peter Windred from Tamburlaine was our guest and explained about them being a fully organic winery and some details on their wines. Graham Cull edged out Bryan Alexander for the Horses A award, well done.
Dessert was sticky fig and date pudding with butterscotch sauce and mascarpone, accompanied by Tamburlaine Botrytis Chardonnay. A very impressive addition to the Shire’s dining options.
News: Sadly Laurie Carroll, David Gossling Ken O’Rafferty and Ray Estall have decided not to continue as members, as Bob Graham had at a previous meeting. This means we have over half the membership roster available to fill. Please consider this and bring prospective members
along as numbers now make it very difficult to negotiate venues.
Your Board this year is: President: Greg Padmore. Secretary: Ryan Turner. Treasurer: Peter Rozea. Food: David Melville.
Wine: Curt York. Grape Crusher: Lindsay Parnell. Bus Captain: Michael Durkin.
Fees remain at $150 annual subs (now due) and $120 for normal meetings.
Reminder: November meeting is one week later, 11 Nov, to avoid Melbourne Cup week.
